Gold vs Titanium

Both can be excellent — timing matters. Titanium for fresh work; gold for healed upgrades when you want warmth and permanence.

— Katelyn Cole, master piercer, Work of Art Las Vegas

Fresh piercings

  • Implant-grade titanium (ASTM F136) — always my starter unless you have a documented metal plan we build together.

Healed upgrades

  • 14k or 18k solid gold from BVLA, Buddha, Anatometal — not plated fashion gold.
  • Gold is heavier — I check cartilage healed enough to support decorative ends.

Allergies

  • Nickel sensitivity clients stay on titanium longer; gold alloys still contain trace metals — disclose allergies at consult.

Readable from arm's length; client returned for a touch-up consult only.

Fine grey transitions around the hourglass glass — the kind of piece that fails if values are too soft on day one.
