Skin science · Why tattoos stay permanentCollagen is the scaffold of the dermis — rope-like proteins that give skin strength. When we tattoo, we disrupt collagen bundles and trigger new formation around ink. That remodeled matrix is part of why your design stays put — and why scar tissue tattoos differently.
Moisturizing helps appearance; collagen molecules in creams do not rebuild dermis meaningfully.
Rapid dermal stretch can redistribute ink slightly — slow bulk/cut cycles are gentler on large pieces.
Muscle growth moves skin — designs on outer deltoid or thigh can shift subtly; plan large work accordingly.
Joshua Cole tattoos at Work of Art on E. Tropicana — seven nights a week. Bring questions about your skin; we plan sessions around honest heal expectations.
Fine grey transitions around the hourglass glass — the kind of piece that fails if values are too soft on day one.
